Toby Keith at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan (DOD)
A lot of celebrities say they support the troops, but there are a special few who really walk the walk. Toby Keith is one of them.
In Afghanistan (DOD)
“My father was a soldier. He taught his kids to respect veterans,†said Keith. “It’s that respect and the thank-you that we have a military that’s in place and ready to defend our nation; our freedom.†(DefenseLink)
Keith just finished his seventh tour to Southwest Asia. And he doesn’t just hit the big bases – he gets out to the more isolated places too. Rachel Tischler, USO vice president of entertainment operations, told DefenseLink, “It was important to Toby and the crew to visit as many of the smaller, remote locations as possible. Never mind getting entertainers – some of them don’t have running water!â€
At Balad Air Base, Iraq (DOD)
According to DefenseLink, he has put on around 150 concerts for our troops overseas to, “try to put smiles on their faces.” And I like the way he ends his concerts. He tells the troops, “I’ll see you next year.” That’s walking the walk.
