There is an old adage that says, “Take care of your troops and they will take care of you.”
There is another old adage that says, “Timing is everything.”
And one more: “If you make fun of your hosts, they will seek revenge.”
I am lying. I made up the last adage, but it should be one.
For example, you don’t make fun of aviators and expect a smooth ride when you step into the cockpit.
You don’t make fun of the Supply Corps at a Supply Corps Ball and expect good (or spit-free) food.
And you don’t make fun of the Coast Guard and expect that they won’t try to get you seasick the first time you ride with them.
I am sailing with the Coast Guard at an undisclosed location at an undisclosed time in the future, and it is too late to take back what I have done over the years.
For my Coast Guard brothers and sisters, they were just jokes! I have nothing but the highest regard for the incredible work you do in protecting our nation under the most extreme conditions, and I can hardly wait to ride with you.
And if you go easy on me, I’ll make it up to you.
