The best war reporting I have ever read is by Michael Yon. If you haven’t heard of him, you will. Because he has been documenting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan virtually from the beginning. His insights and descriptions are so vivid that some day historians will refer to his writings to truly understand what happened when we went to war.
If you want to get an idea of how well he reports, read, “Whispers“, the story of an aerovac (think MEDEVAC) crew serving in Afghanistan. After you have read that, read, “From Canada: A Thank You to U.S. Service Members.” His writings and photographs touch a lot of people, not all of whom are Americans.
